The Open LGU Research Project team conducted the test run of research tools in the city of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental province last May 20-22, 2013. The test run was coordinated by Step Up associate based in Dumaguete City, Anatoly Karpov Buss who is also teaching at the School of Public Affairs and Governance at Silliman University.
Several tools were tested during event – stakeholder’s mapping, key informant interviews (KII) for both open data suppliers and users, and focus group discussion (FGD) for data suppliers. Representatives from the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental, coming from the finance-related offices (i.e. Provincial Accounting, Budget, and Treasury) and the Information, Communication and Technology Unit were respondents in the FGD and KII.
Several non-governmental and people’s organizations also attended the stakeholder’s mapping and were also respondents in the KIIs. These were leaders from the Friends of the Environment of Negros Oriental, Gender Watch on Violence Against Women, Great Physician Rehabilitative Center, among others. Business representatives were also present, like the owner of Cang’s Supermarket and Bethel Guest House, and the manager of a local media firm.
The activity firmed up the tools for the research project that will later be used in three case sites across the country.
